Frequently Asked Questions
How does thermolysis work?
A sterile, disposable, miniscule electrolysis probe is inserted into each hair follicle, administering a tiny amount of electrical current to the root that terminates hair growth without harming the skin.
How much does thermolysis cost?
Thermolysis is the best, most cost-effective option for permanent hair removal. I charge in 15-minute increments at $35, with package options available to reduce the overall cost even more. Plus as your treatments progress, the duration will decrease because this is a permanent solution. Thermolysis is an investment in YOU.
Why is thermolysis better than other methods of hair removal?
Thermolysis is a type of electrolysis that is the only type of permanent hair removal that works on all skin types and all hair colors! It is the gold standard: FDA-approved for permanency, with a long, proven track record of success.
What areas can be treated on the face and body?
Anywhere! Thermolysis can be performed on all normal, healthy skin whether its on the face or body, leaving you with smooth, sleek skin. Typical areas treated include the upper lip, eyebrows, chin, neck, breast, bikini and underarms.
How many treatments are needed before I see results?
You’ll see results immediately. However, because we have thousands of hair follicles all over our face and body, multiple treatments are needed to properly terminate hair growth in your area of choice. Many factors determine the frequency and length of treatments needed including hair growth cycles, heredity, hormones, and even stress.
How long does it take?
Although every client is different, I do find some average durations are reliable depending on area treated. For example, the upper lip area can take from five to ten hours of treatment over a year before the elimination of all hair. Eyebrows typically take anywhere from four to eight hours over ten months. Again, this is dependent on many factors and is only a rough guideline. It really depends on how much hair you have and how often you come in for treatment.
How long does each thermolysis treatment last?
I typically treat clients in 15, 30, 45 and 60 minute sessions on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This can vary depending on your skin sensitivity, treatment area, hair growth cycles, etc. Some clients work up to 2-hour body sessions, and 1-hour facial sessions with excellent results.
What does thermolysis feel like during treatment?
Often this depends on the area being treated and the client’s sensitivity. While most clients are able to tolerate the brief heat sensation in the follicle, others prefer to apply numbing cream. However, even very sensitive clients are often pleasantly surprised at how well they can tolerate treatments. Skilled insertion techniques also minimize any potential discomfort. Often there is a mild heat sensation, then it’s gone and the hair easily and painlessly slides out of the follicle.
How much hair can be removed in one treatment?
The amount of hair that can be removed in one treatment depends upon the client’s tolerance to the treatment and the skill of the thermolysis practitioner. I strive to eliminate the greatest amount of hair at a comfortable pace for the client.
What can be done for hair growth between treatments?
The best way to control hair growth is shaving - even on the face for women. It does NOT cause the hair to grow back thicker. A client should not tweeze between sessions, but may cut or shave any visible hairs until their next appointment.
