Preparation & Post-Session Skincare
Before your Thermolysis Treatment:
Shave five to seven days before your appointment to ensure the hair being treated is in its active stage, which is necessary to ensure termination of hair growth in the treated hair follicle.
Tweezing and other temporary hair removal treatments should be stopped at least two to three weeks before your first appointment. Once treatments begin, you should stop all other methods of temporary hair removal aside from clipping or shaving.
Drink LOTS of water to ensure you are well hydrated for a more effective session.
Please refrain from wearing any creams or lotions (unless numbing agents for the session) on the treatment area, which should be clean and dry for each session.
Apply optional numbing creams a few hours prior to your treatment; I can discuss all the available options with you in detail.
Some clients find that taking a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and/or an antihistamine before beginning the session helps control swelling.
During your Thermolysis Treatment:
I like to start with a consultation and a 15-minute session to determine how your skin reacts to thermolysis. After we begin treatments, we can tailor your program for your unique needs and the most desired outcome.
Relax! I strive to make my clients feel totally comfortable and at ease, offering a clean, soothing, spa-like environment with customized music, lighting, and a great bedside manner!
After your Thermolysis Treatment:
Keep the treated area clean, moisturized and hydrated. Your treated skin will likely be sensitive, and I recommend using only natural, post-care products that cleanse, soothe and moisturize. I offer the full line of the DNA Health Institute’s organic skin care line at my office, which is 100% natural, chemical and preservative free. For more information on DNA, see this page.
Refrain from any temporary hair removal methods on the area for one to two days.
Tiny bumps, soreness and redness are all temporary reactions to thermolysis and are expected, especially after your first treatment. These reactions should disappear over one to two days. In some cases, you may develop tiny scabs or brown spots at the treated follicle; this is part of the healing process and should disappear within days.
Sometimes, after treatment has begun, ingrown hairs can occur. A warm compress along with a gentle exfoliator can help release them.
If you experience temporary swelling, ice is the most common method to soothe the skin, although this method can increase redness.
Avoid sunbathing, sunbeds, public pools, saunas or spas for two days post-treatment.
